Lime Pictures’ Joint Head of Kids Angelo Abela and Tim Compton and Barry Cunningham, Managing Director, Chicken House today announce that Lime has secured the option to adapt the bestselling kid’s trilogy The Apprentice Witch and is set to bring the magic of Lull to life in a live action drama adaptation for 8-12 year olds. Lime is one of the UK’s largest independent production companies and is the production house behind double Emmy award-winning Netflix original series Free Rein. Publishing rights to the magical trilogy set in a cosy world reminiscent of pre-war England have already sold to several countries around the World.
The Apprentice Witch trilogy follows the story of Arianwyn, who has spent her young life preparing for her witch’s evaluation, only to fail it in a very public way. As the artillery of war rumbles in the distance, Arianwyn is billeted to the remote village of Lull, to serve and protect the villagers as their district witch. But sleepy Lull is not all it seems. There is a strict curfew, a mystery surrounding the fate of their previous witch and something terrible is growing in the woods ... Arianwyn finds herself facing a test far greater than any exam.

One of the UK’s largest independent production companies Lime Pictures, has announced it has created a Kids division to be led by in-house duo, Angelo Abela and Tim Compton, reporting to Joint MD’s Kate Little and Claire Poyser. The new entity will sit alongside Lime’s other divisions: Drama and YA, led by Louise Sutton, Hollyoaks and Continuing Drama by Bryan Kirkwood and Non-Scripted programmes by Sarah Tyekiff.

Led by joint Managing Directors Kate Little and Claire Poyser, Lime is the UK’s fifth largest production company, best known for producing genre-busting long running series for youth audiences globally including the Emmy award-winning Singles Project for Bravo and the forthcoming Dating No Filter for E! Crompton, who has helped oversee the company’s US development from the UK for the last three years, will be based in Los Angeles and will continue to develop material that blends the entertainment and factual genres as well as building on the company’s experience producing in real-time and optimising content for multiple platforms. He will continue to report into Lime’s Head of Unscripted Programming, London based Sarah Tyekiff who is responsible for Lime’s unscripted portfolio, worldwide.
A new series for ITV will feature life on the Tyne and Wear Metro – the first time in-depth access has been granted in the Metro’s near 40 year history.
The four-part series is the first commission for Leeds based producer Wise Owl Films, a Lime Pictures company that launched this year.
From the seaside to the football grounds, city centres to the start line of the Great North Run, the Metro serves 100,000 passengers every day in the North East of England, with 60 stations and nearly 50 miles of track.

Rebecca Kenny Smith who earlier this year was the executive producer of Lime’s critically acclaimed True Love or True Lies giving MTV it’s highest week of share to date has been promoted to Creative Director of current programming which includes the BAFTA award-winning The Only Way is Essex (going into production of its 24th series in early 2019) as well as MTV’s global hit Geordie Shore (now in production of its 19th series).
Hollyoaks was last night awarded the ‘Making A Difference’ Award at the MIND Media Awards, which celebrate the best possible representations of mental health by the media.
Stephen Fry, who hosted the event, described the award as being to recognise ‘those who have gone above and beyond’ to raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental health.
Journalist and mental health campaigner Bryony Gordon, who presented the award said: “This year’s winner is a show that is doing wonders in reaching the youth of today, tackling issues through on-screen storylines that have this year covered bulimia, schizo-affective disorder and self-harm, as well as a supporting social media campaign.
Channel 4 Soap Hollyoaks is to explore the issue of radicalisation into far right extremism to raise awareness of a growing concern in parts of Britain.
As the Home Office increases funding into initiatives in major cities to counter anti-immigrant and anti-Islamic sentiments Hollyoaks will examine how far right extremists target, groom and operate.
The continuing drama has worked with a range of expert advisors and charities to bring the story to light.
