Drama Queens review: ITV reality series is much more moving than you might think – and exactly what soap fans have longed for.

There is nothing soap fans love more than gossip, spoilers and whisperings about what goes on behind the scenes on their favourite genre of programming.

If, like many, you’ve longed for a series that can give you all of that in a nice neat bow then Drama Queens is exactly what you’ve been waiting for.

The brand new reality series from ITV and Lime Pictures takes viewers behind the drama that happens on-screen to offer a glimpse of what some of soap’s most recognisable actresses go through on a daily basis while working on the nation’s biggest TV shows.

Featuring a host of stars from EmmerdaleHollyoaks and Coronation Street (no EastEnders unfortunately), it boasts quite a cast and therefore it’s no surprise that it’s every bit as glitzy and fun as the serials in which the actors star, with backstage access to the make-up room, family get-togethers and even a peek at the Strictly Come Dancing tour via the eyes of Ellie Leach.

It’s fun, fabulous and full of life.

But it’s also so much more than that. What’s particularly refreshing is that, unlike a lot of reality TV, there’s a candid realness that permeates throughout Drama Queens.

It’s not about the glamour that comes with being in the limelight but rather it’s about the iconic women and how they balance working on a fast-paced non-stop soap with their own daily lives. That’s what’s at its heart.
